AI and your data
Which AI model each feature uses, what is sent to it, what is never sent, and how to turn it off.
SlashPeak runs every AI model on Google Cloud Vertex AI: Google Gemini, and Claude (a model from Anthropic). Each feature sends the smallest amount of data it needs. Table rows are never sent, because SlashPeak never reads them.
Which model does what
| Feature | Model | Plans |
|---|---|---|
| Cognis chat and chat titles | Google Gemini. Claude fixes a failed SQL lookup | Starter and up |
| AI filters on Usage | Google Gemini | Starter and up |
| AI query optimizer | Google Gemini | Starter and up |
| AI-written AI DBA fixes | Claude (Anthropic) | Growth and up |
The 30-day trial has no AI. Nothing is sent to an AI model during the trial.
What is sent
Cognis chat
- Your question and the earlier messages of that chat.
- The rows Cognis looked up to answer it: cost totals, query patterns, table names, user emails in spend rankings, and similar metadata.
AI query optimizer
- The text of the one query you picked. SlashPeak keeps the result, with that query text, for 30 days, then deletes it. Emails, phone numbers, IPs and your Privacy patterns are masked inside BigQuery, so SlashPeak never receives them. Then string values and large numbers are masked too, and comments are removed.
- The schemas of the tables it reads.
AI DBA (AI-written fixes)
- The finding, the query text, the table schema, and the file being fixed, plus up to 6 read-only files that help (such as downstream models).
- User emails are removed first.
What is never sent
- Table rows or column values from your datasets.
- Service account keys, dbt Cloud tokens, GitHub tokens, Slack or webhook URLs.
profiles.ymland.envfiles from your repo.
Consent
- Cognis chat and the optimizer: using the feature is the consent. The Optimize button says it sends the query to Google Gemini.
- AI DBA: an owner must allow Send SQL to the LLM in Cognis Settings → AI DBA Privacy. Without it, only rule-based fixes run. See Set up the AI DBA.
Training
Google Cloud and Anthropic do not train on the data that SlashPeak sends.
Logs
Calls made by the AI query optimizer and the AI DBA are logged in Cognis → Activity: when, which model, token counts, cost and the outcome. The log never holds the text of a prompt or reply. Cognis chat questions are not in that log. Your chats are kept in the Cognis chat list until you delete them.
For each AI-written fix, SlashPeak also keeps a trace of the prompt and the reply (secrets removed). You can open it from the fix's technical details. Traces are deleted after 120 days.
Our product analytics get only the model, token counts and timing of an AI call, never its text.
Turn AI off
- Do not use Cognis chat or the Optimize button. Nothing is sent unless someone uses them.
- For the AI DBA, turn off Send SQL to the LLM, or turn off Allow AI-written fixes in the policy.
