FAQ
Access, IAM, scan time, warehouse coverage, and pricing. Same answers as the public FAQ, kept next to the setup docs.
Does SlashPeak ever read my table data?
No. On BigQuery, SlashPeak only queries INFORMATION_SCHEMA — job metadata, table DDL, storage sizes, and reservation timelines. It never runs SELECT against your actual tables and never requests roles/bigquery.dataViewer on them. The one optional exception is a linked Cloud Billing export: you grant read access on that single dataset of cost rows. Coming-soon scanners follow the same rule: Snowflake ACCOUNT_USAGE and Databricks system tables.
What IAM roles does the service account need?
Required: bigquery.jobs.create, bigquery.jobs.listAll, bigquery.datasets.get, bigquery.tables.get, bigquery.tables.list, bigquery.reservations.list, resourcemanager.projects.get, bigquery.readsessions.create, bigquery.readsessions.getData. resourcemanager.projects.get is included in roles/browser. The Storage Read permissions stream jobs, jobs timeline, and table storage — they do not grant table contents. You can verify these before pasting a key — see the Security page.
How long does the first scan take?
Most projects finish in under a minute. INFORMATION_SCHEMA queries return metadata, not table contents, so they're fast even against large projects.
Does SlashPeak automatically change anything in my BigQuery project?
Not unless you turn it on. By default SlashPeak only recommends, with a read-only key. The optional Cognis AI DBA can apply a small set of safe, reversible fixes (for example adding clustering columns) — but only with a separate operator key you create, only for the actions and datasets your policy allows, and it starts paused. For dbt models and query code it opens a GitHub pull request instead, which your team reviews and merges; it never merges anything itself. Every change is logged, and almost all can be rolled back.
Is SlashPeak only for BigQuery?
BigQuery is available now, with 23 documented heuristic rules. Snowflake and Databricks are coming soon — same metadata-only, recommend-only model, tuned to how each warehouse actually bills. We go deep on each warehouse rather than shipping a generic checkbox.
How is pricing determined?
See the Pricing page for current tiers. The 30-day trial needs no credit card and covers a 30-day scan and all 23 rules, so you can see a real dollar number before talking to anyone. The trial has no AI. Our team approves each trial request.
